Plus one of the best catches you’ll ever see at any level.

MLB: Oakland Athletics at Houston Astros Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Prospect Watch:

Today in Baseball History:

  • 1945 - The Detroit Tigers and the Philadelphia Athletics played a 24-inning marathon that ended in a 1-1 tie. Les Mueller pitched 19.2 innings for the Tigers.
  • 1975 - Mets catcher Joe Torre grounds into four double plays. Felix Millian had four singles but never made it to second base on account of Torre’s profligacy.

Best of Twitter:

  • Hard to think how a catch could be any better...
  • From the Crash Davis school of media interviews...
  • A piece of history yesterday. This might actually be an occasion where the RBI stat is somewhat telling!
  • Speaking of (questionable) stats, that would be Alex Colome of the Rays...
  • A piece of history for a former A’s catcher...
  • He’s also won in every ballpark save two. Can you name them? Hint: one is known as the Friendly Confines; the other is the subject of a bitter suit between its respective municipality and the MLB...
