Game Thread #124: A’s at Astros

New, 89 comments

Good morning from the steamer that is Houston!

MLB: Oakland Athletics at Houston Astros Shanna Lockwood-USA TODAY Sports

Which Jharel Cotton will we get today? Cotton, who comes into Sunday’s action with a 5.83 ERA, has been quite sharp at times this season. Far more often, he’s been ineffective.

Cotton is opposed by former A’s farmhand Brad Peacock. Peakcock, who was acquired in the Gio Gonzalez trade and subsequently dealt along with Chris Carter and Max Stassi in the Jed Lowrie trade, is having a phenomenal year, boasting a 3.30 ERA, a 2.75 FIP, and striking out nearly 12 batters per nine innings.

The pitching is unlikely to matter if the A’s offense can’t get off the ground; Oakland’s bats have combined for just a single run so far in this weekend series. Something has to break if the A’s are going to end their three-game skid and avoid the sweep.

First pitch is at 11:10 AM. Line-ups are posted below. Let’s go A’s!
