Game Thread #55: Athletics vs Nationals

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

Let's all just collectively forget about the last two games this team has played.

Daniel Mengden gets his second start of the season, hoping for better results this time around. After giving up five runs in less than four innings, along with only one strikeout, in his last outing, Mengden will have to do much more to prove that he can be more than a fringe #5 starting pitcher. At the very least, today he will be playing in the comfy confines of Rickey Henderson Field. Mengden will be opposed by Joe Ross, who has been hot and cold (mostly cold) for the Nationals this season.

The A's defense will be adventurous today. The outfield is Khris, Canha, and Joyce, and on the left side of the infield Healy is manning third base and Pinder is starting at short. Ideally, Mengden will find his strikeout pitch today.

First pitch is at 1:05. Lineups are below.
