Good morning A's fans!
Yet another Sonny Sunday (maybe one of our last) as Sonny Gray tries to get back on track. After a so-so start against the Yankees, Gray was roughed up by the Astros this past Tuesday, allowing five runs, all in the first inning. After the first, he settled in, and while he didn't allow another run, he was far from sharp. His command has been very hit-or-miss and we'll see if he can find some consistency today.
The White Sox are something of a sneaky team. Lurking in the middle of an otherwise hapless lineup are Melky Cabrera, Jose Abreu, Todd Frazier, and Avisail Garcia. If Gray can control those four hitters, you have to like his chances of success. Opposing Gray on the mound is left-hander Derek Holland. The former Rangers ace has been either tremendous or terrible this season, without much middle ground. Holland is coming off a start against the Twins in which he didn't make it out of the third inning.
Franklin Barreto is up to the two spot today and still at second base. I can't be the only one desperate to see him play shortstop? Rajai Davis comes in for Matt Joyce. First pitch is at 11:10 AM. Let's go Green and Gold!
