Game Thread #54: Oakland Athletics vs. Washington Nationals

I'm starting a poll right now: How many times will the A's strike out tonight against Stephen Strasburg?

Neville E. Guard-USA TODAY Sports

Good evening; Happy Friday, and greeting from the cellar. Unfortunately, not the wine cellar; the cellar as in basement, where your 2017 Oakland Athletics are residing after their horrifying loss to Cleveland yesterday morning. Things don't look much better for them tonight, to be honest.

Let's examine the evidence:

Monday - The A's struck out 12 times.
Tuesday - The A's struck out 19 times.
Wednesday - The A's struck out 11 times.
Thursday - The A's struck out 17 times.

In case you missed it, Friday - The A's face Stephen Strasburg.

Good luck.

Andrew Triggs will have his own challenges tonight after he fell victim to his own team's awful defense in his last start; he will be facing the AL East leaders, who are awesome and also extremely hot; playing to an 8-2 record in their last 10 games. Let's just say that this game on paper is not so much in the A's favor.

But as they say, this is why they play the games, so it would be just like the A's to drop 7 runs on Strasburg and also shut down the Nationals. You should watch in case that happens, but mostly in case the A's strike out 26 times or something. It could be fun.
