Game Thread #70: Athletics Versus Astros

It’s the start of a four-game series with the Astros and a chance for Oakland to quickly climb out of the American League West cellar.

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Well, tonight’s the night. It’s the start of a four-game series with the Astros and a chance for Oakland to quickly climb out of the American League West cellar while simultaneously making the Astros the humans, versus deities, that their record implies. One can be hopeful, especially given the Athletics’ four-game sweep of the New York Yankees, now within striking distance of the Red Sox.

Taking the hill tonight is Daniel Gossett, right handed pitcher looking for his first career win in only his second start. Gossett replaced Triggs in the rotation when he was placed on the disabled list. Brad Peacock, once part of the Oakland Athletics organization, is making his sixth start after appearing in the bullpen to start the year.

The Astros come off a 3-6 home stand, losing two of three games to Boston while the A’s were busy sweeping the floor with the Yankees.
