Happy Father's Day A's fans! Today's match-up intrigues me and hopefully will begin to answer some important questions: what's going on with Jharrel Cotton? Who is Luis Cessa? Can Matt Joyce continue to mash?
The only answer I will attempt to give you is what to expect from Cessa. Fangraphs rates Cessa as a 40 FV prospect, which fits with the scouting reports that rate his upside as being limited to swingman/spot starter. He'll run it up in the mid-90s and rely on the slider against right-handers and his changeup against left-handers. He doesn't profile as a big strikeout guy but doesn't walk many either. Definitely a winnable matchup, especially considering how taxed the Yankees bullpen is.
The season hasn't gone according to plan, but finishing off a four-game sweep of the first place Yankees would make for a pretty nice father's day present for all the wonderful A's dads!
