Game Thread #47: Oakland Athletics at New York Yankees

New, 338 comments

In case you haven't noticed--and judging by your game thread comments, you haven't--the A's have managed to win a game here and there and have climbed one game out of the cellar. They open a road trip tonight in New York, and because today is Friday and I'm doing the game thread, their starter has already been scratched.

Andrew Villa-USA TODAY Sports

Happy Friday and welcome to a fun-filled three-day weekend of baseball bliss! The A's are in New York, where they open up a road trip against the AL East-leading Yankees, who have started the season in the top spot and have been terrific at home. In contrast, the A's are abysmal on the road, oh, and they've also lost Kendall Graveman for tonight; he was scratched this morning and will be replaced by Sean Manaea. Sounds like a good match on paper, right? A great home team against the worst road team with a replacement starter. What could possibly go wrong? Friday nights are always so fun for us; I'm not going to even talk about the amazing walk-off win that my replacement got to recap last week. Maybe I'll get one too.

Manaea will be facing off against Masahiro Tanaka, who has struggled as of late, so it would be to the A's advantage to capitalize on his recent troubles.

Here are your lineups:
