If you thought the A's were having the worst pitching injury woes, think again. The Mariners have five starting pitchers on the DL (including our old friend Felix), and will be sending veteran Yovani Gallardo to the mound. Gallardo is having a pretty mediocre season this year coming off a pretty bad season with the Orioles.
For the A's, the Throwin' Samoan will get the start, coming off a brief DL stint for shoulder discomfort. His walk rate's been a bit elevated, but so has his strikeout rate. I'll take it.
In his rehab start for the Sounds last week, Manaea was solid. He threw 72 pitches over the course of 4 innings and gave up 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits, a walk, and 5 strikeouts. It's going to be essential to this rotation that Manaea gets and stays on track.
If Manaea can hold his own, he might need to go the full nine innings to get the win. At this point, there's no reliever trustworthy enough to hold a lead, but you know BoMel will keep trying.
Let's do this!
