Game Thread #3: Oakland A's vs. Los Angeles Angels

New, comments

The Oakland Athletics will try to lock up a series split in game three of this four-game set against the Los Angeles Angels. Jharel Cotton faces Garrett Richards.

Strangely enough, I've never actually watched any of these games that I've done recaps for over the last few years. Oh sure, I'd pull up the highlights if I needed to get a visualization of the great play called by Ken Korach or Vince Cotroneo, but my lack of a TV subscription and my aversion to getting around blackout restrictions meant my A's season was, for the most part, a strictly aural experience.

And so in this new era of internet streaming to cable subscribers, I'm able to jump onto my mother's hilariously underused television log-in to watch the A's (1-1) play Game #3 tonight against the Angels (1-1) to try to lock up a split in this four-game opening series at the Oakland Coliseum.

Taking the mound at Rickey Henderson Field will be Halos' right-hander Garrett Richards against Athletics rookie righty Jharel Cotton. Richards had an abbreviated 2016 campaign after electing rest instead of Tommy John surgery. Cotton seeks to build on his amazing September callup in which he ended with a 2.15 ERA after five starts with 23 strikeouts in 29 1/3 innings.
