Game Thread #16: A's vs. Mariners

We're not facing the King and that's a win.

The A’s will kick off the four game series against Seattle starter James Paxton, who in a Triggs-ian manner has opened the season with 21 straight scoreless innings. Cesar Valdez – who hasn’t graced a Major League mound since 2010 – will toss a spot start for the A’s. Per our very own Alex Hall back in February, Valdez’s career has been on the ups since 2015 when he began his domination in the Mexican league, then the Pacific Coast League, and then the Dominican Winter League where he lead his team to a championship title in January of this year.

The A’s basically have nothing to lose in Valdez, but if the 32-year-old can show his upside and prove his past seasons weren’t a fluke, that would sure be nice. According to Fangraph’s Brett Miller, Paxton is going to be this year’s Cy Young winner. So, here goes… something?
