Introducing Athletics Nation's new 2017 Game Threaders!

New, comments

The 2017 season is underway, and somehow the Oakland A’s are in second place after the first two weeks. Even if they fall back down into the cellar, though, Athletics Nation will be here every day to watch the game with you and analyze every possible angle.

This spring, we held our fifth annual Game Thread auditions, and as a result of that program we’re adding three new names to the gameday roster. If you tried out and didn’t get picked, fear not — like with a pitching rotation, life happens and sometimes more spots open up over the course of the season. And if not, there’s always next year!

Without further ado, please welcome Torreyh, Matt Doan, and Frederic_Henry!

Torreyh

I've lived in the same house in Oakland my entire life, and currently am down at Claremont McKenna College, where I'm pursuing degrees in Media Studies and American Studies, with the hope of going into journalism after graduation (heading back to the Bay in 20 days, not that I'm counting...). I currently cover sports for a couple of places (school paper and 12up.com), and I hope to stay in the field. Baseball is my first and foremost sports love, but I'm a competitive swimmer so am obligated to shout that out as well.

My favorite former A is Billy Burns, but my 10-year-old self who cried when Jason Kendall was traded would probably beg to differ.

Torrey will be hosting our Thursday threads.

Matt Doan

My name is Matt Doan and my wife and I and our 4 kids (all under 11!) live in Orange County, California, just a stones throw away from Anaheim Stadium.

I grew up in Santa Cruz, California and became a lifelong A's fan in 1982 at the precious age of 7, when my Dad took me to the Oakland Coliseum for the first time. I had never seen anything so beautiful in my entire life (this is pre-Mt. Davis!).

My favorite player from those days was Carney Lansford. If you never had the opportunity to see him bat it is worth a YouTube search. One of the most unique stances in baseball history and a serious overlooked cog to the Bash Brothers dynasty.

I am a Christian Pastor here in Southern California at Calvary Church Santa Ana, which I am guessing makes me unique to the A's Nation family!

Matt will be platooning on Wednesdays, hosting the threads for road games.

Frederic_Henry

I am Midwestern born and bred and am attending law school at the University of Michigan right now. I will be working in Houston this summer. Most of my family has settled in Texas and I hope to end up there after I graduate. I have an eighteen month old who is the best thing to ever happen to me, and I'm a life long baseball lover.

Favorite former Athletic? I can't nail down just one. I was always a huge Barry Zito fan. I totally connected with the quirkiness and his love of music and followed him throughout his career. I was a big Ted Lilly fan too - such a competitor - and I'm realizing as I write this that I probably have a thing for left-handed pitchers. And I also really enjoyed watching Derek Norris...2014 AL Wildcard game aside.

Frederic (aka Jack) will be hosting our Sunday threads.

In addition, familiar names praunlinde (Peggy), Jeremy Johnson, and TuffsBuffs (Dani) will be doing regular gamedays as well. And of course, the one and only baseballgirl will be doing what she does best: getting you pumped up on Fridays.

Say hello to the 2017 Game Thread crew!
