Game Thread #140: Oakland Athletics vs. Seattle Mariners

I think I speak for everyone, including Daniel Mengden, when I say that it can't get much worse. Recalled by the A's for his last start, Mengden was absolutely destroyed by the Boston Red Sox, exiting in the third inning after allowing seven runs. He will look for a bounce-back tonight, and might have better luck, as Seattle is not quite on par with the juggernaut from the East.

Good evening and a Happy Friday to all of you! As summer winds to a close and football begins this weekend, we get ready for Fall baseball, and the excitement and thrill of the playoff chase. Of course, not "we" so much, since the A's are, well, let's just say they aren't running that race right now. We're going to be rooting for Daniel Mengden instead, as he tries another Major League start with his 6.66 ERA. That's just perfectly, actually.

Unlike the A's, Seattle is actually still within five games of the second wild card; a long shot to be sure behind six other teams, but a shot nonetheless. They will be throwing Iwakuma against the A's, to our chagrin; he is already 3-0 against the A's this season alone.

So on paper, you bet on Seattle, but we still play the games. And I still write about them! Game 140; let's do this!
