The 2016 Athletics head to Seattle to begin their final series of the season. Tonight, the team backs RHP Kendall Graveman, who makes his final start of the year. Graveman has been the A's most reliable starter in 2016. He has led the team in innings by a 40+ inning margin and is the only starting pitcher to make 30 or more starts. Tonight is Graveman's 31st start of the year. In a season seriously marred by injury, Graveman's health has been that much more notable.
The A's have gradually transitioned to a young team over the year and in this final series we get the last look before the offseason. Surely the offseason will bring changes, the question is will the turnover be as extensive as the last two offseasons of major reshuffling? Looking at the roster make up and the number of young players on the 40 man, it may be more of an organic development than usual. But there will be changes.
The last series of the year may not provide many insights, but it will give the final glimpse of the current iteration of the team. And the A's take on a Mariners club fighting for their playoff lives. The A's get one last chance to play spoiler.
The two lineups for tonight's battle look like this:
