It is September and the A's are out of the picture for contention. But that doesn't mean we can't have any fun. Sweeping the defending champ Royals and tapping out their season would equate to fun. The first three games of this four game set have been fun.
With a collective score of 29-7 in the three contests, the A's youth-infused squad has taken the Royals out of the realistic playoff picture. Yesterday, Sean Manaea dealt, the A's batters hit and the Royals looked like they gave up. The final run scored by Khris Davis to make it 8-0 was defended by a team that looked like they had thrown their collective hands up in quit. George Brett was likely very upset.
So, today, another rookie takes the hill for the A's. Daniel Mengden looks to right things in the final weeks of what has been a great season for him in terms of jumping up levels (started in AA), but which has seen some pummeling in the majors as-of-late. Mengden will look to lower a 6.71 big league ERA and improve upon a 1-7 record. We believe in our mustachioed hurler!
