The Nashville Sounds clinched the Pacific Coast League American South division championship on Friday after the New Orleans Zephyrs lost 4-2. The Sounds began their celebration of the title after completing a 5-3 win over the cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds. It is the first division title for an Oakland Triple-A affiliate since the Sacramento River Cats won the 2012 PCL Pacific North division.
The PCL regular season ends on September 5, with Game 1 of the best-of-five American Conference championship series beginning September 7. Games 1 and 2 will be played at the North division champion, most likely the Oklahoma City Dodgers, with Games 3 through 5 in Nashville. The PCL championship against the Pacific Conference champion begins September 13.
The PCL champion plays the International League champion on September 20 in Memphis for the Triple-A National Championship.
