Game Thread #123: Athletics at White Sox

Kenny Karst-USA TODAY Sports

This last Wednesday was likely one of the most exciting and memorable days of Chad Pinder's young life, having been called up to the show for the first time. With Matt Chapman taking his spot on the Nashville Sounds roster, and an immediate need for help in the middle infield on the major league club, it appeared that Pinder was getting called up to stay through the rest of the season, and show the team and the front office what he is made out of. However, the excitement of Chad Pinder's callup to the big leagues has been tempered by the fact that he has done nothing but sit on the bench since joining the team, with Max Muncy getting the lion's share of starts at second base after Lowrie's season ended due to injury. That all changes tonight, however, as he will be getting his first taste of pitching at the highest level by going up against Chris Sale and the White Sox.

Starting today for the A's is Ross Detwiler, who has had one great and one not great start since joining the team in early August. Following Kendall Graveman's absolutely dominant performance last night, Detwiler will be looking to take advantage of the over-aggressive White Sox lineup as well, but with no action last night and an off day the previous day, the A's bullpen can be used assertively in order to keep the game close no matter what.

Lineups are below. First pitch is at 4:10.
