Game Thread #85: A's at Twins

The A's hope to recover from their dismal performance last night to achieve a series win.

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

After a bleak evening with hours worth of rain last night in Minneapolis, things have cleared up and the weather in the Twin Cities today is looking better than that in Oakland. Will Sonny be Sonny when it's sunny?

Sonny Gray is the starting pitcher for the A's. Gray had some success in June, but his start this past weekend snapped right back to the way things have gone for him in 2016: a couple of quick, clean innings, followed by a whole bunch of hits to the tune of 7 earned runs in 6 innings. I think each of us dies a bit inside when we see Sonny struggle, so hopefully he can rejuvenate us and this floundering A's team with a strong performance on the mound today.

Pitching for the Twins is Ervin Santana. I was going to say Santana, with his 4.50 ERA, has been extremely meh this season, but then I saw Sonny's ERA and got sad. Today is a battle of "formerly good and can hopefully be good again" pitchers.
