Game Thread #98: Oakland Athletics vs. Tampa Bay Rays

Even missing a few key members of the squad tonight, the A's will try to take a second game in the four game series against the Tampa Bay Rays behind Kendall Graveman, who has pitched well lately and looks to continue this trend tonight. He will be opposed by Drew Smyly, who has had a tough last two months. And away we go...

John Hefti-USA TODAY Sports

Good afternoon and welcome to another exciting night of A's baseball! This broadcast is coming from the fires of hell, a 100+ day, with smoke and ash from nearby fires raining down outside Let's just say it's been an inside day. Here's what we know so far:

(1) Stephen Vogt is on family medical leave.

(2) Bruce Maxwell has been called up and is in the dugout, but is not in the starting lineup.

(3) Matt McBride is the starting catcher tonight.

(4) Josh Reddick was scratched from the lineup, but don't panic (yet); he has a sore back.

(5) As tough as things have been in the last couple of years, let's just be all thankful we're not the White Sox, in which is officially the most unbelievable story out of MLB this year.

I think that's all you need to know. Graveman vs. Smyly. Let's do this.
