Game Thread #69: A's vs. Angels

Kenny Karst-USA TODAY Sports

First of all, nice.

Second of all, happy Eric Surkamp day everyone. The stalwart rotation anchor is going to try to give the A's a chance to win the series. I'm sure that there's no one the A's would rather have on the mound than Surkamp (0-4, 8.07). Don't worry about his subpar conventional numbers (you should never look at wins!) – his 7.07 FIP is much, much better than his ERA.

I'm conflicted as to how to feel about Jered Weaver (5-6, 5.71) pitching today. On the one hand, he sucks now. He's really bad. He's allowing the most HRs in the MLB, he has the worst FIP in the MLB, and, you know, 82 MPH fastball on a good day. On the other hand, it's going to be that much more embarrassing when he pitches a complete game shutout.

Here are the lineups. Khris Davis is still dealing with his calf soreness, so we're going to have the mythical Smolinski/Burns/Muncy outfield. All Stars, every one of them.

Today's Lineups

LOS ANGELES ANGELS OAKLAND A'S
Yunel Escobar - 3B Billy Burns - CF
Kole Calhoun - RF Jed Lowrie - 2B
Mike Trout - CF Stephen Vogt - C
Albert Pujols - DH Danny Valencia - 3B
Jefry Marte - 1B Billy Butler - DH
Johnny Giavotella - 2B Yonder Alonso - 1B
Andrelton Simmons - SS Marcus Semien - SS
Carlos Perez - C Max Muncy - RF
Shane Robinson - LF Jake Smolinski - LF
Jered Weaver - RHP Eric Surkamp - LHP

Have a nice day.
