The Oakland Athletics will call up Andrew Triggs to start Saturday’s contest against Tim Lincecum and the Los Angeles Angels, manager Bob Melvin announced after Friday’s game (via Jane Lee, MLB.com).
Triggs threw four relief innings in his last major league appearance on June 3, and I would imagine the A’s will use Triggs the way Mike Scioscia has occasionally used Cory Rasmus to start bullpen games, with 30 to 50 pitches and anywhere between nine and 15 batters faced, however many innings that fills up.
Henderson Alvarez will make what may be his last rehab start on Saturday, though he is only expected to go around 70 pitches (via Susan Slusser, San Francisco Chronicle). Eric Surkamp is scheduled to start Sunday’s finale against the Angels.
CSN California’s Joe Stiglich reports that it appears Tyler Ladendorf is returning to the Nashville Sounds, meaning the A’s will run with a three-man bench and eight-man bullpen for now.
Andrew Triggs getting call for tomorrow's start. Ladendorf walking out with/bag packed, looks like that's roster move.
