The Oakland Athletics have placed top starting pitcher Sonny Gray on the disabled list with a strained right trapezius, the club announced Sunday. The A's called up left-handed reliever Daniel Coulombe to take Gray's place on the active roster.
Sonny Gray does not expect he'll miss more than the minimum time, however:
Sonny says he got a cortisone shot in the area after Friday's start. Considers the injury mostly minor, expects to miss minimum time.

Gray is eligible to return June 5, though the club will need a fifth starter for Wednesday's contest in Seattle on May 25.
The issue started bothering Gray in Tampa Bay, where he pitched on May 15:
#Athletics' @SonnyGray2 said first noticed problem before start at Tampa Bay last Sunday. Noticed again during 4th-inning warmups vs. Yanks.

Apparently, the issue did not resolve itself and so the cortisone shot was needed.
Gray is the A's 13th player on the disabled list. The club has not had 13 players on the disabled list since at least 1979.
