In an intense matchup between two clubs resembling an immovable object and an unstoppable force, last night the Cubs managed to eek out a nail-biting 1-0 victory on the backs of Javier Baez and Jon Lester. While the Cubs and Cubs fans have all the reasons in the world to be confident, especially after taking a 1-0 lead in the five game series, the Giants have something of a knack for surprising and spoiling everyone else's fun in October.
In tonight's game, Jeff Samardzija will be facing Kyle Hendricks. Despite sharing a rotation with Jon Lester and Jake Arrieta, Hendricks was not only the strongest starting pitcher for the Cubs, he was arguably the strongest starting pitcher in all of baseball all season. He will be looking to keep San Francisco bats quiet, as the Giants' entire offense came on one swing from their injury-replacement third baseman. Samardzija originally came up with the Cubs with a lot of hype, and was a lights-out reliever for the team before transitioning into a starting role and having mixed results for various teams, including the A's, over the next few years. Tonight Samardzija will try to make the Cubs regret trading him away in the first place.
First pitch is at 5:10.
