According to an NBC report, a 23-year-old man named Mike Nolan was shot in the head and torso in his hometown of Yonkers, N.Y. just past midnight on Friday. The incident, described as a drive-by shooting, occurred outside of a Burger King. The report describes Nolan as being in "very serious condition" and "fighting for his life," currently at Jacobi Medical Center
You're reading this story on Athletics Nation because Nolan was Oakland's 18th-round draft pick in 2014. The 23-year-old left-handed pitcher, who stands 6'7, has not yet played in the minors and was on the "restricted list" of the A's short-season Arizona Rookie League team. According to Melissa Lockard of Oakland Clubhouse, Nolan "retired last year to take a job close to home a few months after being drafted."
We will update with more information if/when it becomes available.
