Unfortunately, Sonny Gray simply cannot pitch every inning of every game. In my opinion it's worth trying out, but apparently you need four different starters. So, we're stuck depending on a Jesse Chavez (5-11, 3.88) rebound. He's been simply awful since the All-Star break, putting up a 6.62 ERA (!!!). Hitters are hitting .325/.393/.541. It hasn't been good.
Meanwhile, Collin McHugh (13-5, 4.27) has been the reverse, putting up a 3.24 ERA since the break. Today's matchup doesn't exactly favor the A's, but, hey, stranger things have happened.
