Week 19 Bullpen Report

Boston Red Sox closer Koji Uehara is out for the season after taking a line drive off of the wrist this past week. The new closer at the time of this report is Jean Machi. Over the past 2 weeks he's recorded a save with a 5.79 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. Another option would be Junichi Tazawa who over the past 2 weeks has 6 blown saves with a 7.11 ERA and 1.74 WHIP. As you may have guessed both closers are widely available in all Major Fantasy Baseball leagues.

Tommy Kahnle is now closing games for the Colorado Rockies. Over the past 2 weeks Kahnle has recorded 2 saves with an ERA of 4.76, WHIP of 1.41 with 7 strikeouts, 4 walks and 1 bomb in 5.7 innings pitched. Kahnle is available in over 75 percent of all Major Fantasy Baseball leagues.

Week 19 Starting Pitching Options

Each of the pitchers listed below are the probable scheduled starters at the time of this publication. Please check the schedule daily for any last minute changes.

Kyle Gibson and the Minnesota Twins have a Monday evening game against the Yankees in New York. Over his past 4 starts Gibson has posted a 0-2 record with a 7.04 ERA with 19 strikeouts, 8 walks and 4 bombs over 23 innings pitched. Below average WHIP of 1.57 and .333 BABIP with a 5.02 FIP and xFIP of 4.36. Since the All Star break the Yankees have slashed a .259/.328/.443/.771 line with a 19 percent strikeout rate, .184 ISO, .292 BABIP, .335 wOBA and wRC+ of 112. This is a daunting task I know but there aren't too many choices on Monday.

Eduardo Rodriquez and the Boston Red Sox play host to the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night. Rodriquez is 1-2 over his past 4 starts with an ERA of 5.25 with 17 strikeouts, 8 walks and 3 bombs in 24 innings pitched. Average 1.33 WHIP and much better .269 BABIP with a 4.44 FIP and better 4.23 xFIP. The Indians since the break have slashed a .279/.337/.410/.747 line a 20 percent strikeout rate, .131 ISO, .335 BABIP, .325 wOBA and wRC+ of 110. This is another toughie for streamers but look for strikeouts on Tuesday night.

Matt Wisler and the Atlanta Braves are in San Diego to play the Padres in a Tuesday night game. Over his past 4 starts Wisler is 1-1 with a 6.55 ERA with 14 strikeouts, 9 walks and 4 bombs over 22 innings pitched. Very high 1.82 WHIP and .355 BABIP with a 5.42 FIP and better 4.80 xFIP. The Padres since the break have slashed a .247/.302/.401/.702 line with a 22 percent strikeout rate, .154 ISO, .291 BABIP with a .306 wOBA and wRC+ of 98. Pitching in PETCO plus the high Padres strikeout rate are huge plusses in Wisler's favor on Tuesday night.

Nathan Karns and the Tampa Bay Rays are in Houston for a Wednesday night game against the Astros. Over his past 4 starts Karns is 2-0 with a 3.86 ERA on 22 strikeouts, 9 walks and 5 bombs over 21 innings pitched. Solid 1.19 WHIP and .221 BABIP with a 5.53 FIP and much better xFIP of 3.99. The Astros since the break are slashing a .253/.322/.441/.764 line with a 19 percent strikeout rate, .188 ISO, .288 BABIP with a .332 wOBA and wRC+ of 112. Strikeouts are the main objective in this one.

Mat Latos and the Los Angeles Dodgers travel north to Oakland to take on the Athletics in a Wednesday afternoon game. Over his past 4 starts Latos is 0-3 with a 6.10 ERA with 13 strikeouts, 3 walks and 3 bombs over 20.2 innings pitched. High 1.31 WHIP and tolerable .303 BABIP with a 4.17 FIP and better 3.72 xFIP. The Athletics since the break are slashing a .232/.287/.355/.642 line with a 17 percent strikeout rate, .122 ISO, .269 BABIP, wOBA of .281 and wRC+ of 79. This one should get Latos back on track and produce good numbers in all categories on Wednesday.

Jerome Williams and the Philadelphia Phillies are in Miami to take on the Marlins in a Thursday evening contest. Over his past 4 starts Williams has posted a 1-1 record with an ERA of 3.57 on 14 strikeouts, 4 walks and 4 bombs over 22.2 innings pitched. Below average 1.41 WHIP and .312 BABIP with a 4.69 WHIP and much better 3.52 xFIP. The Marlins since the break have slashed a .249/.311/.348/.659 line with a 17 percent strikeout rate, .099 ISO, .293 BABIP with a .291 wOBA and wRC+ of 80. This should be a good streaming opportunity for you to consider on Thursday.

Patrick Corbin and the Arizona Diamondbacks are in Cincinnati to take on the Reds in a Thursday evening matchup. Over his past 4 starts Corbin has a 1-1 record with a 3.54 ERA on 22 strikeouts, 6 walks and 2 bombs over 20.1 innings pitched. Solid 1.28 WHIP and below average .323 BABIP with a great 3.20 FIP and even better xFIP of 3.02. Since the break the Reds have slashed a .258/.325/.404/.729 line with a 21 percent strikeout rate, .146 ISO, .306 BABIP, .317 wOBA and wRC+ of 98. This could be a very good streaming opportunity on Thursday night for solid numbers in all the categories.

Week 19 Waiver Wire Options

Each of the players listed below are available in over 50 percent of all Major Fantasy Baseball leagues.

Welington Castillo C Arizona Diamondbacks: Over the past seven days Castillo has slashed a .235/.222/.706/.928 line with 2 bombs, 6 RBI, 3 runs scored and 4 hits. Great .500 ISO and not so great .214 BABIP with a wOBA of .441 and wRC+ of 174. Castillo generally bats either 6th or 8th, great for power and not so great for everything else but if bombs are required this week Castillo might just be your man.

Yangervis Solarte 2B 3B 1B San Diego Padres: Over the past 7 days Solarte is slashing a .259/.355/.333/.688 line with 1 RBI, 6 runs scored and 7 hits. Lousy .074 ISO and average .280 BABIP  with a much better .313 wOBA and wRC+ of 102. Solarte normally bats leadoff, is triple eligible and should be a good source for runs scored and maybe steal the occasional base as well.

Johnny Giavotella 2B Los Angeles Angels: Over the past 7 days Giavotella has slashed a .367/.387/.500/.887 line with 3 RBI, 4 runs scored and 11 hits. Fair .133 ISO and above average .423 BABIP with a wOBA of .384 and wRC+ of 154. Giavotella bats either 1st or 8th in the Angels lineup and is good for average, runs scored and maybe a couple of stolen bases.

Trevor Plouffe 3B Minnesota Twins: Over the past 7 days Plouffe has slashed a .179/.207/.429/.636 line with 2 bombs, 5 RBI, 3 runs and 5 hits. Very good .250 ISO and terrible .143 BABIP with a wOBA of .279 and wRC+ of 69. Plouffe generally bats 5th in the Twins lineup and if you can handle the low batting average and the strikeouts he's good for bombs and RBI.

Odubel Herrera SS OF Philadelphia Phillies: Over the past 7 days Herrera has slashed a .303/.303/.394/.697 line with 1 bomb, 3 RBI, 4 runs, 2 stolen bases and 10 hits. Lousy .091 ISO and much better .360 BABIP with a wOBA of .304 and wRC+ of 91. Herrera is duel eligible and bats either 2nd or 3rd in the Phillies lineup and could be a good source for runs and RBI as well as stolen bases this week.

Ender Inciarte OF Arizona Diamondbacks: Over the past 7 days Inciarte has slashed a .346/.346/.385/.731 line with 2 RBI, 3 runs scored, 9 hits and 1 stolen base. Awful .038 ISO and excellent .391 BABIP with a decent .320 wOBA and wRC+ of 98. Inciarte generally bats leadoff for the Diamondbacks and is a good source for average, runs scored and stolen bases.

Andre Ethier OF Los Angeles Dodgers: Over the past 7 days Ethier has slashed a .357/.471/.643/1.114 line with 3 runs, 5 hits and 1 stolen base. Great .263 ISO and .500 BABIP with a wOBA of .459 and wRC+ of 201. Ethier generally bats 6th in the Dodgers' lineup and is a good source for average, runs scored and just about everything else especially when he's this hot.

Aaron Hicks OF Minnesota Twins: Over the past 7 days Hicks has slashed a .367/.387/.623/1.020 line with 2 bombs, 6 RBI, 6 runs and 11 hits. Great .267 ISO and .346 BABIP with a wOBA of .437 and wRC+ of 185. Hicks bats either 1st or 2nd in the Twins lineup and is a good source for runs, bombs, RBI, average and stolen bases.
