Game Thread #85: Oakland Athletics vs. Seattle Mariners

New, comments

The A's look to take the four-game series with a win today as Chris Bassitt makes his second start for the A's against Seattle's Mike Montgomery, a left-handed pitcher that might be harder for the A's to face than Felix Hernandez yesterday.

So I'm not sure I'm the best omen for today's game. I ran the game threads Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday; the only games the A's have lost this week, and here I am again. We can only hope for better things in this one, but it won't be easy. If there was ever a match-up worse suited for the A's after their thrilling victory against Felix Hernandez yesterday, I don't know about it. Seattle's left-handed starter, Mike Montgomery, comes into today's game having thrown back-to-back complete game shutouts. Also, he strikes out a lot of batters. And he's left-handed. I don't want to say that the A's will struggle in this one, but let's just get some hits on the board early, shall we?

Chris Bassitt will try to reverse his tough-luck from his first start; he pitched a great five innings, but because of the A's offense, was left with a loss.

As predicted against the tough lefty, Josh Reddick will be sitting this one out; Sam Fuld will be in right field. Here are your complete lineups:
