Oakland A's recall Dan Otero, option Chris Bassitt, will go to 4-man rotation for now

The Athletics will want Dan Otero's success in Triple-A to translate a return to success in the major leagues.

The Oakland Athletics recalled right-handed relief pitcher Dan Otero from Triple-A Nashville and optioned Chris Bassitt to Triple-A ahead of Sunday's contest against the Cleveland Indians. Between the All-Star Break and an off day on July 20, the A's will not need a fifth starter until July 26.

The A's expect to recall Bassitt for that game, as Jesse Hahn will still need some rehabilitation time if he is ready to pitch at that point.

A July 25 return allows Bassitt to start on regular rest.

Dan Otero returns

Right-handed reliever Dan Otero returns after a successful stint with the Triple-A Nashville Sounds. He made nine appearances, pitching 16⅔ innings while allowing just two walks (one intentional) and striking out 13. He had a 1.08 ERA. Otero started the season with a 6.29 ERA in 23 major league appearances while allowing four home runs before being demoted to Triple-A.

Sunday's game against the Cleveland Indians is scheduled to start at 10:10 AM Pacific Time.
