GameThread #79: A's vs. Rockies

New, comments

The A's try to recover from a depressing sweep with a three game series against the NL's Colorado Rockies.

Welcome to this edition of A's baseball!

I will be your host for tonight's festivities.

Yeah this is not a marquee matchup. I'd like to think the A's are better than the Rockies, but I don't know. It's probably about the same.

One thing that might make it more interesting for y'all is to participate in the GOG (guess the outcome game). Basically a bunch of questions are listed and you get to place your bet on what will happen in this series. The prize is eternal glory. There's still time! Go here and enter your answers:

I know this has been discussed a lot, but I wonder if the A's came out and put the Royals in their place with a couple hit batters or some other juvenile revenge, if it might have helped the team. If Phegley just came out and punched Escobar in the face as he was stepping into the batters box. Or something. They just could not manage runs against some relatively hittable starting pitching. But I guess a meek tails-between-our-legs approach befits a last place team.

That series so completely disgusted me. I had very little hope of contending but I wanted the A's to stand up to the Royals and at least win one. Embarrassing.

Another thing is that I'm sick of going to games and seeing terrible performance over and over and over. The A's are a relatively decent 20-21 on the road and a pathetic 14-23 at home. The fans who are actually showing up after the horrid start deserve to be treated with some better baseball.

Somehow Jeremy Koo mustered up enough enthusiasm to write a series preview for the two game set. I don't know how, but it's here, and as usual it's solid. What the heck happened to Drew Stubbs? Getting paid $5 million to play for the Albuquerque Isotopes!

Must Reads - Series Preview

I am not excited about this game, but at least it's baseball, which is better than a bad day at work or a fight with a significant other or any of the other negative things that "real life" brings. In that sense I'm still looking forward to enjoying the game. Also Kendall Graveman has been a bright spot lately, and while said bright spot has alternately been extinguished by bullpen gascannage and silent bats, it might come together tonight. Colorado pitchers are collectively dead last in MLB. Obviously the home park is a big consideration there, but still...we might be able to put some runs up.

Last place. Nowhere to go but up!
