Oakland Athletics outfielder Billy Burns returns to the lineup for the first time since Friday while shortstop Marcus Semien and third baseman Brett Lawrie are getting the day off for Sunday afternoon's finale against the Kansas City Royals.
Billy Burns leads off and is in center field after missing the last two days with a hip flexor issue that was causing leg tightness. Speed is Burns' game; Burns leads the American League in infield hits with 22, according to Baseball Reference, and is riding a 15-game hitting streak.
Brett Lawrie will give way to the left-handed batting Max Muncy this afternoon at third base. This is Lawrie's first game off since the June 16 contest against the San Diego Padres. Lawrie has continued to bat well in that stretch, hitting 12-for-37 with a home run, five doubles, four walks, and 10 strikeouts. Muncy will make his first start since June 16, and his first appearance since June 20. Muncy has started his major league career 16-for-75 (.213) with two home runs, seven doubles, eight walks, and 22 strikeouts.
Marcus Semien also takes an off day after going 0-for-his-last-13. The last game he did not start was on June 16, where he hit a double as a pinch hitter and did not take the field the following inning. Eric Sogard will play shortstop and bat second, Ben Zobrist is at second base batting fourth, and Sam Fuld is in left field batting ninth.
