Oakland A's trade for Edward Mujica, place Jarrod Parker on 60-day disabled list

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Oakland Athletics have acquired right-handed relief pitcher Edward Mujica and cash considerations from the Boston Red Sox for a player to be named later or cash considerations, the team announced during Saturday night's game against the Seattle Mariners. Mujica, turning 31 on Sunday, was designated for assignment on Friday. To clear space on the 40-man roster, Jarrod Parker was transferred to the 60-day disabled list. A 25-man roster move is not expected until Mujica reports.

Mujica is owed $4.25 million in 2015, the final year of his contract. He was designated for assignment on Friday after throwing 13⅔ innings with eight strikeouts and three walks with a 4.61 ERA.

Parker is being evaluated after going to the ground in pain during a rehabilitation start with the Triple-A Nashville Sounds. The move delays his eligibility to around the end of May, though in the best-case scenario Parker is not expected to rejoin the A's before then, at this point.
