The Oakland Athletics activated Ben Zobrist from the disabled list and optioned Craig Gentry to the Triple-A Nashville Sounds ahead of Monday afternoon's Memorial Day contest against the Detroit Tigers, the A's announced. He is not in this afternoon's lineup with Sam Fuld in left field and Eric Sogard at second base.

Zobrist last played as the designated hitter on April 24 before undergoing surgery to repair a torn left meniscus in his right knee. In the 28 games the A's have played since Zobrist went on the disabled list, the A's have gone 8-20. He played in five games during his minor league rehabilitation assignment that started on May 19, where he went 5-for-16 with two walks, a sacrifice fly, and three strikeouts between High-A and Triple-A.
Craig Gentry saw very limited action in his return to the big league club, going 0-for-3 on May 20 against the Houston Astros. Gentry was called up May 17 when Ike Davis was placed on the disabled list.
