Starting pitcher Drew Pomeranz was removed from the Oakland Athletics' contest against the Houston Astros Monday night with a 2-1 count and one out in the bottom of the fifth inning under the escort of an A's trainer. The Athletics announced to the press box that Pomeranz left with left shoulder tightness, tweets the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser.
After the game, Pomeranz told beat reporters that he had soreness in his acromioclavicular joint, located in the shoulder, tweets the Bay Area New Group's John Hickey. It's an issue he's had in the past but has never missed a start.
Edward Mujica replaced Pomeranz with two runners on in a 1-1 tie. Pomeranz had completed 82 pitches to that point.
