The Athletics announced that left-handed starting pitcher Sean Nolin was reinstated from the disabled list and optioned to Triple-A Nashville. Nolin is returning from a longer-than-expected recovery from sports hernia surgery that kept him shut down for spring training. On optional assignment, Nolin will stop accruing the service time he was earning on the disabled list.

Presumably, Nolin is still stretching himself out so you wouldn't say he's ready to make MLB starts at a moment's notice. Nolin pitched three innings in his one rehab start for Nashville, giving up one hit while striking out three and walking none. He pitched six scoreless innings overall while on rehab, striking out six and walking two. Nolin could be in the mix to be the next man up to the big league rotation in case of an injury or poor performance.
