Game Thread #35: Oakland Athletics vs. Boston Red Sox

New, comments

Well, things are looking a bit bleak for our heroes, as the A's have now dropped six games in a row--six winnable games in a row, to be precise, just to add to the heartbreak. They will look to Drew Pomeranz to turn things around in his start tonight.

Sometimes you sign up for a gig, and you think, "This will be fun! How much extra time could it really involve, and you know, A's baseball is super fun! They're always entertaining, even if not winning!" And then, as you're staring down the barrel of recapping another indeterminable Drew Pomeranz start, you wonder if you should have perhaps taken up harness racing as your sport du jour instead. I mean bad baseball is still baseball, right? We'd rather blow all the late leads in every game than not have baseball on TV at all, right? I'll leave you to ponder that.

Yes, there are a million other ways for the A's to turn things around. It is probably scientifically impossible for the bullpen to continue to be this horrific, and eventually, the offense will score insurance runs, right? And Eric Sogard can't start 100 consecutive games this season, right? (Looks at lineup. Darn it.) And I'm sure that the A's lead off hitter is...oh darn it again. And the starting pitching? Some of it has been just great. Unfortunately, Pomeranz is not one of those pitchers so far this season. In his seven-hour-long starts, he's been merely pedestrian, and will look to turn things around with the rest of the team tonight.

The A's will try to hang some runs on Boston's Justin Masterson; a cushion of at least 5 should allow us to breathe when the bullpen enters the game in the sixth.

But rain or shine, two hour game or five, your faithful recappers will be here with all the action. Right here. For you. Recapping A's baseball until it all turns around.
