Oakland A's announce Opening Day roster

No surprises here.

The Athletics announced their opening day roster following Saturday's spring training finale against the San Francisco Giants. They will carry five starting pitchers, seven relievers, two catchers, and 11 other position players. Eight members of the 40-man roster will begin the 2015 regular season on the disabled list.

  • Starting rotation (5): Sonny Gray, Jesse Hahn, Scott Kazmir, Kendall Graveman, Drew Pomeranz
  • Bullpen (7): Tyler Clippard (closer), Dan Otero, R.J. Alvarez, Evan Scribner, Eric O'Flaherty, Fernando Abad, Jesse Chavez
  • Catchers (2): Stephen Vogt, Josh Phegley
  • Outfielders only (3): Billy Burns, Sam Fuld, Craig Gentry
  • Other position players (8): Billy Butler, Mark Canha, Ike Davis, Tyler Ladendorf, Brett Lawrie, Marcus Semien, Eric Sogard, Ben Zobrist
  • 15-day disabled list (6): Coco Crisp, Sean Doolittle, Nate Freiman, Josh Reddick, Sean Nolin, Jarrod Parker
  • 60-day disabled list (2): A.J. Griffin, Taylor Thompson
  • Optioned to minors: Raul Alcantara, Chris Bassitt, Ryan Cook, Eury De La Rosa, Alex Hassan, Arnold Leon, Renato Nunez, Rangel Ravelo, Chad Smith
  • Non-roster invitees re-assigned to minor league camp: Bryan Anderson, Jason Pridie, Brock Huntzinger, Pat Venditte, Barry Zito
Barry Zito accepted assignment to the Nashville Sounds, according to the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser. Josh Reddick is expected to be activated from the 15-day disabled list on Saturday, April 11, when the A's face the Seattle Mariners.
