Up and at 'em A's fans! The Athletics Nation live action weather center perched high atop Mount Davis reports partly cloudy skies in Kansas City today with no rain forecast till 6 pm local time. Plenty of time to get in a day of baseball.
Today Scott Kazmir (0.69 ERA) looks to continue his stellar start to the season against Danny Duffy (6.35 ERA). In his two starts this season Kazmir has allowed just one run, a solo shot. Outside of that single blemish Kazmir has been brilliant striking out 18(!!!) batters in 13 innings of work. His opponent Duffy is a California native who grew up in Lompoc where his father is a Santa Barbara County Sheriff. Duffy was effective in his last start when he went 6 2/3 innings allowing 3 earned against the Twins.
With Fuld taking the day off we will see Gentry in center. Gentry has been relegated to a back-up role this season not having made a plate appearance in over a week. Also, he has yet to record a hit this season. Gentry will hopefully get off the snide today batting lead-off ahead of Mark Canha. On Friday Canha went 0-4 and is 1 for his last 12 plate appearances. He might be slowly cooling, but a solid performance today from Canha could show that his first week was not a fluke.
This is my first game thread, so please, any and all criticism is more than welcome. Here's to some clean, injury-free baseball without any unnecessary altercations.
