The A’s and Brewers played to a 9-9 tie today. Kudos to the A’s offense on battling back in the 9th after the pitching and defense let them down.

I hate those puns so much so we will not go there. I may be a novice but I am not going there. Don’t work folks. Sonny Gray will be fine. Today was an outlier for the Ace. It went all south after, well, his warm up tosses. His first pitch was tagged by Carlos Gomez for a home run. It did not get better from there. He went 2 2/3 innings giving up 6 earned runs on 8 hits and 3 walks. For whatever reason he could not locate his pitches and we know what happens next. It was a little painful to watch. In spring it is all about guys getting work in but when a guy is struggling like he was it is painful to watch. I personally like guys to go thru some adversity in Arizona as a reminder that they cannot take a pitch or a play off. He will turn it around and be ready to take the hill on opening night.

Venditte did not have his best outing as well. He pitched one inning and gave up 3 runs on 3 hits and a walk. It is of course a long shot for him to make the roster but it is worth noting that he did not have a great day.

Ike Davis had a strong day. He was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI and a home run. After a slow start he is hot. He is now hitting .520 and hopefully he can carry that production into the regular season.

Canha and Muncy both homered after entering the game which brought the A’s back to tie the game. Unfortunately they could not take the lead but it was good to show they have the fight to get back into a game that certainly seemed out of reach.

Lots of good quality baseball and beer talk in the game thread today which was fun. I am certainly thankful to Athletics Nation for allowing me the chance to take over for the day. I hope that everyone enjoyed it as much as I did.

I can’t wait for opening day.
