Oakland As Target Brandon Belt

Oakland As target Brendon Belt.

Trade: Jesse Chavez, Fernando Abad, and R.J. Alvarez for Brandon Belt.

Brandon Belt is a very solid player who still has so much more talent then he has shown. Brandon Belt has a ton of power and is coming of another year ending to a concussion. But he still managed a very solid line of 280/356/478 and if Brendon Belt could tap into more of his power he could easily become a 25-30 home run threat. Its hard seeing the Giants letting him go and especially to the As but Buster Poseys future is first base and Brandon Belt is blocking that future from happening. I think we could take advantage of the fact that he's coming off an injury and swing a trade with them. This would also make first base way more of a strength and if Coco Crisp gets hurt which is likely he could move to left field where he is a decent defender who would only get better with more playing time there.

Now its a even year so the Giants are due for a World Series and has nothing less in sights. A trade for Jesse Chavez strengthens the back end of their rotation and he could go into the bullpen if needed its just a good win now type of move. With Jeremy Affeldt retiring the Giants need a lefty with a good amount of upside and thats something Abad posses in every way. He's only a year removed from a dominant campaign. Besides the Giants bullpen has some question marks in it in the fact that their 8th and 9th inning man have struggled tremendously against left handed pitchers and if Fernando Abad could learn anything from Lopez he could move into one of those roles.

Now R.J. Alvarez represents the dominant future closer the Giants need. If they can get all of Alvarez's potential they have a true closer in their bullpen. He's a good project for them and they could fix him like they did Hunter Strickland.

This would be a great trade for the As and would give us one of the most potentially solid infields in baseball. I think a 285/366/495 line is not that far of a reach.
