Oakland As potential pickups

Oakland As targets.

I would as the Oakland Athletics pick up a couple of people who could warrant a one year deal or could be low cost high reward kind of pick ups.

Number one. Ryan Vogelsong.

Ryan Vogelsong is a player who has been through it all. He hasbeen cut, he has been an all star, he has won a world series, and he almost quit baseball. He has tremendous value to a team needing a strong veteran presence on the team. Additionally if he found even some of his 2011 or 2012 form he could become a great pick up. Ryan Vogelsong had a bad year this year and is due for a small contract but he has shown in the past that he could he effective in the swing role. Hopefully Ryan Vogelsong could become our cheaper version then the already cheap version of Chris young.

I would imagine we could sign him for as little as 2.5 million possibly with 2 million in incentives.

Number 2. Denard Span.

When healthy Denard Span is a tremendous player few players can impact the game like he can. Denard Span would come to the As in a one or two year deal. He would immediately be plugged into left field and the As would probably have one of the best 1-2 punches in baseball if he could stay healthy. He would just be a great player to get as Coco Crisp can't be relied on in left field anymore. I would imagine he would probably put up a slash of 300/350/415 which would be huge for the Athletics. He would also steal 20+ bases in the year which would lead to a lot more runs coming home.

We could probably net him for around 7 million next year.

Number 3. Chase Ultey.

Chase Utley had a terrible season and he ended it on a terrible note. He finished the season with a slash of 212/286/343 overall it was a lost season for the old power hitting second basemen. He would be a low cost pickup for the As and hopefully he could become a solid backup second basemen. Then we could trade the incumbent Eric Sogard.

Even if Chase Utley slashed 250/310/405 it would be worth it. Additionally he could take some of our younger prospects under his wing like Joey Wendle. He would just be a solid pickup in my opinion and he would come cheaply. Chas Ultey is also known for being a team leader in the club house and thats something the As need.

I would imagine he would cost around 1.5 million.

Number 4. Casey McGehee

Casey McGehee was a great brewer and was great for the marlins. Hes a solid fielder at first and third. Hes also better against left handed pitching which is something we need. Hes a weird player i could see him either being very good for us or very bad so i would just guess a slash line of 254/326/333 i think that would be a very good pickup. Hes known for being a great person in the clubhouse and is incredibly selfless is willing to do anything he can for the team.

I would imagine he would get around 700 thousand + 1.5 million in incentives.

Number 5. Jimmy Rollins

Jimmy Rollins is no longer the Mvp player he was with the phillies but he still has a lot of value to a team. Jimmy Rollins could take Marcus Semian under his wing and mentor him a great deal, and for how cheap he will be that would be more then worth it. Hes still very solid defensively and still has plenty of pop in his bat. He could take over as our utility infielder for the most part. I would predict a slash line of about 232/296/367 which would be a decent slash line.

I would imagine he would cost around 4.5 million.

Number 6. Domonic Brown

Domonic Brown was the top prospect in baseball a few years ago, and he looked like he was ready to be the players the phillies hoped for after he was an all star in 2013. After hitting 27 bombs with a slash of 272/324/494 he hasn't come anywhere near those numbers since. After the 2013 season he has been terrible but he still is only 28 and has plenty of upside left in him, and if he doesn't play well he would still be a good depth move.

Minor league deal.

Number 7. Cliff Lee

I could see Cliff Lee retiring but if he doesn't i would seriously love to see him come here. If he could return to nearly as good as he was with the phillies then we could have a steal of a signing. Do i think that will happen probably not. But worse comes to worse it would be a good depth move if he was willing.

1 million dollar deal.

Number 8. Doug Fister

Doug Fister is a great pitcher. He's someone who i think will almost undoubtedly bounce back and have a solid year. I would love for the Athletics to take a chance on him. I think we should give him the exact same contract we gave Kazmir a 2/22 million dollar deal. We get a potential number 2 starter and at worse a number 4 starter. Also i think Doug Fister could teach Grey a think or to as well which would be invaluable.

Does anyone else think the Angels trade for simmons is just terrible? I mean they gave up their best two prospects for a player whos only value comes from amazing defense. I mean shortsop wasn't even a weakness for them. Well I'm glad their not in our division anymore.
