The Arizona Fall League kicked off on Tuesday, and one Oakland A's prospect got off to a great start. Chad Pinder, who played shortstop for the Double-A Midland RockHounds this season and was named Texas League Player of the Year before helping his team win the league's championship, picked up right where he left off in his first game for the Mesa Solar Sox.
Pinder homered twice as part of a 3-for-5 day that included four RBI, though the Sox fell 8-7. The team is made up of prospects from the A's, Angels, Rays, Cubs, and Marlins, and the good news is that no A's prospects pitched, so all those runs were given up by someone else's future arms.
Here's one of Pinder's homers, via Oakland Clubhouse:
The only other A's youngster who played was Renato Nunez, who went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout. Jaycob Brugman did not appear in the game, which I assume is why the Sox lost. Here is the full box score.
The Sox are playing again right now, and this time Sean Manaea is starting and Brugman is leading off. Click here to follow along on Gameday. Pinder and Nunez are not in the lineup on Wednesday (there are lots of guys on the team and I gather that everyone doesn't necessarily play every day).
The Sox roster also includes relief pitchers Brendan McCurry, Kris Hall, and Aaron Kurcz.
