Brandon Moss has right hip problem requiring offseason surgery

The San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reports that Oakland Athletics outfielder/first baseman Brandon Moss is dealing with "a right hip problem that will require offseason microfracture surgery." The injury, Slusser reports, has affected Moss throughout the year. Moss will be able to play through the problem for the rest of the year, though the problem rendered him unavailable for Wednesday's game because an MRI "showed so much torn cartilage that he has bone-on-bone issues." Moss received a cortisone shot prior to Wednesday's game.

The A's missed opportunities to play Moss in the ninth inning when Nick Punto and Sam Fuld came to bat with the A's trailing by a run.

Update 11:18 am: Susan Slusser notes that by "previously unreported", she means "to the media."
