The Athletics activated left-handed closing pitcher Sean Doolittle from the 15-day disabled list, the team announced today. Doolittle sustained an intercostal strain in his last appearance on August 23.
The southpaw has 20 saves on the year, with 80 strikeouts and just five walks. According to the Athletics, Doolittle's 16 strikeouts per walk allowed this season as a reliever places him fourth in Major League Baseball history since 1914, but only third in franchise history:
K/BB | Player | Team | Season |
18.33 | Dennis Eckersley | OAK | 1989 |
18.25 | Dennis Eckersley | OAK | 1990 |
16.50 | Tom Morgan | DET | 1958 |
16.00 | Sean Doolittle | OAK | 2014 |
14.00 | Sergio Romo | SF | 2011 |
Other injuries: It's too early for the A's beat writers to have any updates on Craig Gentry (concussion) or Stephen Vogt (left ankle) (not in Seattle). The Bay Area News Group's John Hickey speculates that Nick Punto could start at second base this afternoon:
After a tough series on defense from Alberto Callaspo, look for Nick Punto to get the start at 2B Friday for #Athletics if hammy feels OK.

Update (2:25 PM): Nick Punto is starting at second base tonight against the Seattle Mariners.
