John Jaso concussion update: Not cleared to play

New, comments

John Jaso will be out for awhile longer. We also have updates regarding Sean Doolittle and Craig Gentry.

Oakland Athletics beat writers John Hickey and Susan Slusser are reporting on Twitter that concussion specialist Dr. Micky Collins of Pittsburgh, PA declined to clear John Jaso for baseball activity during his visit today.

It appeared unlikely that Jaso could return as a left-handed batting catcher, and that if cleared he would be in a pinch-hitting or designated hitter role. Now, left-handed hitter Adam Dunn will have to pick up the DH spot at least for some time against right-handed pitching. Dunn bats fourth for the Athletics tonight.

Sean Doolittle may be activated Fri., Sep. 12

Craig Gentry improving. Unavailable tonight.

The right-handed batting outfielder suffered a concussion on a collision with White Sox second baseman Carlos Sanchez at first base while successfully beating out a bunt attempt.
