Well, at least for most of us, the Fantasy Baseball regular season end this Sunday with the first round of the playoffs beginning this Monday September 4, 2014. The season just seemed to fly by didn't it? Anyway, this question came in this week that I thought answering here might be helpful.

Dear Phil,

My team has made it to the championship rounds of the playoffs in my 10 team 5x5 standard ESPN league. Do you have any advice for me?

Thanks for the question.

Congratulations! I remember how excited I was to finally breakthrough and qualify for my first Fantasy Baseball Championship round! It was the first season where I actually "worked" at it and my work paid off as I won my first championship that season. I hope the same for you.

I would continue doing the same thing that got me there. If I streamed pitchers during the regular season than I would continue to stream pitchers in the playoffs and not miss a beat. If I was religiously playing splits than I would continue to do so and keep on doing whatever it was that got me there.

Some leagues have a maximum games started for pitchers so you might want to keep an eye on that. In some playoff formats the matchups last two weeks so you want to make certain, especially if you are streaming, what the maximum starts number will be and stream accordingly.

If you have anyone on the disabled list that will be there for more than two weeks you might want to consider moving on from that player and find someone who may be able to contribute to your matchup.

Keep an eye out on the September call ups and especially players on really bad teams. You might be able to find a couple hidden gems if you do your homework. I found this list that should get you started.

Injuries for this week

Daniel Murphy Mets: Murphy is on the 15 day DL with a calf injury.

Wilin Rosario Rockies: Rosario is on the15 day DL with a left wrist injury.

Anibal Sanchez Tigers: Sanchez is on the 15 day DL with a pectoral injury.

Ryan Sweeney Cubs: Sweeney is on the 15 day DL with a hamstring injury.

Sean Doolittle Athletics: Doolittle hit the15 day DL with a strained intercostel muscle

Waiver Wire Picks

Eric O'Flaherty RP Oakland: It looks like O'Flaherty is the new closer, at least for now, and he picked up his first save this week. Look for him to get a few more chances and if he converts he's a diamond in the rough.

John Jay OF Cardinals: Even though he's tapered off a bit over his last seven games Jay has been red hot in August batting .404 and knocking in 13 RBI's. If you are short an outfielder Jay might be the answer.

Carlos Carrasco SP Indians: Carrasco has had a couple of decent outings winning three out of his last four outings while striking out 24 in his last 22.2 innings of work. Carrasco has only given up two earned runs during that span as well.

Bartolo Colon SP Mets: Big Bart is having a nice little run over his last three games and no matter what team he winds up pitching for he'll almost always give you a chance to pick up a win. He's also struck out 19 in 21 innings of work.

Collin McHugh SP Astros: McHugh has picked up wins in three of his last four ballgames and 17 batters in 22 innings. His next outing is with the Angels where he may not get you a win but he will strike out a few Angels hitters.
