Game Thread #126: Oakland Athletics vs. New York Mets

After winning their first game all week last night, the A's try to sweep the brief two game series against the Mets before another off-day tomorrow. Today, the offense is tasked with a tough pitcher in Zack Wheeler. Jeff Samardzija needs to be great today to give the A's a modest two-game winning streak, especially with the lineup the A's are throwing out.

The A's go for the sweep (doesn't that sound more fun than a losing streak?) today against the Mets as Jeff Samardzija will face off against Zack Wheeler. Wheeler has been nearly perfect in his last 9 starts, and he hasn't lost a single one, dating all the way back to June. The A's offense will try to break up that streak today.

Minor sidebar: In the middle of a pennant race, with two off-days this week, this is the best lineup we have? Seriously? I know everyone is struggling at the plate and all, but Callaspo, Fuld, Parrino and Sogard as 6-9? Are we even trying anymore? With the way Wheeler has been pitching, I fear for our offense, who hasn't exactly been gangbusters against lesser pitchers.

But we're being positive. And this is the second game of a win streak, so we should probably win it. Jeff Samardzij; good luck to you. At least you don't have to hit, as this Interleague game is in an AL ballpark. Let's do this!
