SB Nation has partnered with FanDuel to bring you a daily fantasy baseball game! The game is similar to the PickSix thing that we had a couple years ago, in that you construct a lineup for the day that is drawn from all the players in the Majors but limited by a salary cap. You accrue points for the stats produced by those players and we see who has the most points at the end of the day.
There is, however, one big difference with FanDuel: you can win actual money. (ATTENTION TRAINMAN: YOU CAN WIN ACTUAL MONEY ON THIS.) You can load money into an account and pay an ante to enter that day's competition, and if you finish above a certain threshold then you receive a payout (that is, you don't have to finish in first place to win money). Our friend Phil Naessens plays this game as part of his fantasy sports work, and he tells me that there are people who make their living dominating this game. (residents of AZ, IA, LA, MN and WA cannot play for money, though they can still play -- here are all the official rules).
Full disclosure: the words "partnered with" mean that Athletics Nation is receiving a little bit of money for promoting and participating in this game. That's nice for us, because a lot of work goes into this site. That's nice for you because, of all things for us to promote to you, an awesome and potentially profitable fantasy baseball game is about the most appropriate thing possible. But that aside, this seriously is an easy and fun game, especially if you're like me and you like the concept of fantasy baseball but don't have the time to commit to maintaining a team in a full-season league.
Here's how to play:
Here's the link to our first contest. Buy-in is only $2, which only gets you two Buck Millses on the street. You have until 4:05 p.m. to submit a lineup if you want to play today, but if you don't make it in time then it's OK because you can just go again tomorrow. Just know that I'm playing today, so if you do enter then you're really just competing for second place.
Good luck, and have fun with this new game!
