Game Thread #100: Oakland Athletics vs. Houston Astros

After last night's disappointing extra innings loss to open the series with the Astros, the A's will try to regroup in this one behind Jesse Chavez, who will be facing off against Brad Peacock.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

It's true that in a long 162-game season, you'll win some and you'll lose some, but you sure hate to lose a game in which Scott Kazmir held the opposition to fewer than three runs (and shouldn't even have allowed two), and in which the A's offense basically squandered every chance they had to score, and to top it all off, the Angels lost a very rare two games in succession, so there was a missed opportunity to grab another game in the West. The A's know that the Division is the key to the playoffs; the Wild Cards are not an option. But today is another day, and there is no time to dwell; the A's offense has to get right back to work tonight.

The A's were very successful against Brad Peacock in his last start; he didn't make it out of the first. They will hope for some run support for Chavez tonight. They will start the other two catchers as Norris sits while Jaso and Vogt will play. Sogard will man second base and Josh Reddick is in the lineup again.

It's root beer float night, so grab your glasses and pretend you are at the ballpark!
