First of all let me heartily commend you on your good taste, eschewing soccer for this game, this thread. In today's A's-Mariners game, players will proudly be using their hands to touch the ball and the game will not be decided by a homerun derby.
That being said, arguably nothing approximates the "0-0 forever until finally something sort of happens" of a soccer game like an A's-Mariners showdown. In the series' first two games the A's have perfected the "nothing happens" part and turn to Sonny Gray to try to salvage one game going into the All-Star break. Gray is opposed by the 6'10" right-hander Chris Young.
Oakland is tired, battered and bruised right now and it shows in the starting lineup. Coco Crisp sits out the entire series in deference to his sore neck and Yoenis Cespedes will pamper his hammy by DHing, giving the A's that "just like we drew it up in February" outfield alignment of Parrino-Gentry-Moss with Stephen Vogt at 1B and a 7-8-9 that might have even less power than the Blue Ribbon Committee.
