Welcome to Athletics Nation and a perfect summer Friday night. I'd like to start by issuing a formal welcome to Brad Mills. You can read all about him and who went where to get him here. I would make a two-buck chuck joke based on his $1 trade, but that's so 2006 and the nickname has already been used perfectly. Mills will take the mound for tonight's game in sort of a "Welcome to the team, here's the ball, good luck" kind of way, as he will start tonight on regular rest, and push Jesse Chavez back a day to give him an extra one. Hopefully this announcement confuses the Boston hitters as well.
The A's are looking at Punto at second base tonight; a move has to be made soon for Josh Reddick to rejoin the team, and I'm not sure it's going to be Vogt. Facing the Boston lefty Felix Doubront, Gentry will be leading off instead of Coco Crisp, and Blanks will be playing first tonight while Moss takes the outfield. The hot-hitting Callaspo will be the DH. The A's are only starting one catcher tonight, and the middle of the lineup looks to be rebounding from its collective slump (Cespedes, of course, has continued to be awesome in his late All Star bid). The A's are 45-28; the only team in the Major Leagues over a .600 winning percentage, and staked to a 6 game lead over their nearest competition. They will look to increase that tonight.
Everyone ready? Here we go!
